How to Make a Paper Christmas Village Display

Make a paper Christmas village display by assembling one building, placing its finished base and adding scenery around it. Choose one building set for a consistent starting point; check space before printing the rest.

Choose the building style first

The ten-building Christmas village bundle supplies houses with separate roofs, floors and matching ground bases. It includes sixteen accessories per building, for 160 across the village. Colour and colouring versions are included. The files are A4, with forty printable pages in total across those versions.

The five-house Christmas bundle uses a different construction: a cylindrical wall and pointed cone roof. Its designs include gingerbread, peppermint, evergreen, snowman and Santa-themed houses. It is designed in A4 portrait format, with both pre-coloured and black-and-white versions.

The tower-house set has ten designs with round walls, tall cone roofs and themed toppers. Its thirty-one full-colour pages include an illustrated guide, with A4 and US Letter PDFs. Each house also has an oval base and small scenery pieces. This listing states personal use only.

Test the print and construction

Use the chosen set's directions rather than transferring settings from another download. For the ten-building A4 bundle, the listing specifies single-sided printing at Actual Size / 100% and says not to use Fit to Page.

For that set, follow this sequence:

  1. Colour first if you chose the colouring version.
  2. Cut the outlines and fold the dashed lines.
  3. Form the house and attach its separate floor.
  4. Attach the roof, then glue the house to its ground base.
  5. Fold the accessory bases and attach them to the tile.

The cylinder houses require rolling the wall and forming the roof into a cone. The tower-house listing specifies heavier white card, scissors, adhesives, a ruler and pencil for folding and curling.

Arrange bases before decorations

As a display-planning suggestion, clear your shelf or table and place completed bases without gluing them to the furniture or to one another. Leave room to lift a building out if it needs repair.

Do not assume the three downloads share a miniature scale. Their constructions and bases differ. A cohesive display can come from choosing buildings from one set, while another set becomes a separate scene elsewhere.

Stop at a useful first display

Finish one building and its immediate scenery before opening another group of pages. Store each building's spare pieces together.

For a home project, choosing which building comes next can be part of the enjoyment. You can begin with a bakery or post office and add more later. The goal is a display you can assemble and place comfortably, rather than every included page printed at once.
