Printable Christmas Ornaments Kids Can Make

Make printable Christmas ornaments by colouring a flat shape, joining a folded bauble or filling a hanging letter envelope. Choose the construction first and gather its string, ribbon or hole-making tools before starting.

Start with a flat colouring ornament

The Christmas Ornament Coloring Craft includes ten colouring pages and five ornament shapes: round, teardrop, star, bell and Christmas tree. Children colour the artwork, cut around the outside and add ribbon, string or twine.

The listing names white paper or cardstock, colouring tools and scissors. It recommends adult supervision when younger children use scissors. This is a useful choice when the main task should be decorating one surface rather than joining several model parts.

Choose a folded bauble for assembly

The 3D bauble download has eight designs, each with four pictures. Its seventeen printable pages include a how-to page plus colour and black-and-white versions, in A4 and US Letter PDFs.

Use the supplied directions for the joins:

  1. Colour first if using a black-and-white page.
  2. Cut the four pieces and punch the marked cap holes.
  3. Fold each piece in half with the picture inside.
  4. Glue the backs together until the four pieces are joined.
  5. Thread the hanging string as shown and knot it.

The listing recommends ages 5+ with a little adult help. Set aside the folding and hole-making work when deciding how you will support your particular group. Do not treat it as the same task as cutting one flat ornament.

Make writing part of the ornament

The Letter to Santa envelope ornament has ten matching envelope-and-letter designs. Its twenty-one full-colour pages include the how-to page. The letter has prompts for a name, age, a self-portrait, kind actions and a wish list.

The directions call for printing the envelope on cardstock and the letter on plain paper at Actual Size / 100%. After cutting and folding, glue the envelope flaps, fold the completed letter and slide it inside. The marked holes take a ribbon tied into a bow.

Organise a hanging and collection area

As a practical setup, keep a tray for cut shapes and a separate place for string, ribbon and finished work. An adult can manage the hanging stage while children finish colouring or writing.

Check that each ornament is ready to handle before moving it from the table. Label work in a place that will still be visible after folding. If ornaments are going home, explain which ones are flat and which need room around them. The three downloads offer different making experiences; one well-chosen format is enough for a complete craft session.

Its directions use cardstock for the envelope, plain paper for the letter, glue, a hole punch and ribbon. Those are materials you provide.
