How to Make Paper Finger Puppets That Fit
Make paper finger puppets by printing at the listed scale, cutting the character and joining its band or rolled body to fit the finger. Keep each design's fitting guide: a wraparound band and a bird's tube use different joins.
Close a Halloween band with an overlap
The Halloween Finger Puppets set has twenty-four characters across four full-colour and four black-and-white pages, with A4 and US Letter versions. The long band stays attached to the character while you cut its outline.
The directions fold the band backward, wrap it around the finger and glue or tape the overlapping ends. Print at Actual Size / 100%; the listing suggests regular paper or slightly heavier paper and notes that scissors and glue may need adult assistance.
Choose the coloured version for assembly or colour the outline before cutting. Do not separate the band from the character as though it were unused margin.
Use the family's printed fitting guides
The Family Finger Puppets download has ten characters on a colour page and a black-and-white page. Each has small- and large-finger fitting guides and a marked glue tab.
Follow the appropriate guide while wrapping the band, glue the tab and let it dry before playing. Adult help is recommended for cutting and gluing. The listing suggests Actual Size printing on white cardstock.
As a making routine, prepare one character first and check how the band joins before cutting the rest of the cast. This lets you show the attachment without guessing an overlap from a different product.
Roll the bird body before adding features
The Bird Finger Puppets set has eight full-colour birds, with a how-to page and two bird sheets in each paper-size PDF. It includes a five-centimetre check bar for printing.
Its instructions call for cardstock or matte photo paper at Actual Size. Cut the body and two finger arches, roll the body into a tube and glue at the S or L line. Then attach the beak, wings, feet and tail.
The arches let the bird perch on a finger; this is not the flat-band construction used by the other sets. The listing recommends ages 6+ with grown-up scissor help, so plan that support for the extra cutouts.
Test one finished puppet before a full cast
Use this assembly check:
- Confirm the page scale using the supplied mark where available.
- Finish colouring before joining.
- Keep all parts for one character together.
- Use that template's fitting lines and glue tabs.
- Let the join set before performing.
A puppet that is ready to use can go into a later storytelling session. Keep construction checks separate from choosing a plot so children are not handling wet joins while trying to make a character speak.

Questions and answers
Can I use the bird S and L lines on every puppet?
No. Those lines belong to the bird body. Family puppets have their own fitting guides, while Halloween puppets use overlapping bands.
Do all three sets have black-and-white pages?
The Halloween and Family sets include colouring pages. The Bird Finger Puppets description lists full-colour sheets only.
